We are a community based non-profit organization calling for a “TRUCE” between feuding groups, and at-risk youth’s desire for a “TRUCE” within their own conflicting feelings about continuing violence or seeking a more productive path. The TRUCE model uses a focused deterrence approach as a prevention strategy. Key elements of the TRUCE model includes board and core group meetings, as well as engaging community and faith-based leaders to provide a message for individuals to stop violent activity. Law enforcement strategy includes, homicide reviews, group audits, and call ins. The TRUCE case manager creates individualized case plans based on the identified needs of the clients. TRUCE assists clients and families with service referrals, appointments and transportation. We believe we can improve Baton Rouge one young adult at a time. We work closely with juvenile court partners to identify youth who are currently associating with violent groups. Too much of the violence we see in Baton Rouge is driven by meaningless disputes among our youth. TRUCE focuses on youth and young adults between the ages of fourteen (14) to twenty-four (24); the data has proven these specific ages are responsible for the majority of the violence throughout Baton Rouge. Community Outreach events help spread the TRUCE message and improve the community’s perception of TRUCE and law enforcement. TRUCE staff frequently speaks to civic organizations, local news outlets, and local high school students to educate the public about its purpose.
